Crockery is considered high-risk by most courier companies, and as such, they do not accept liability for breakages during transit. While we take every precaution to ensure safe delivery, Greek Plates cannot be held responsible for any breakages once the order has left our premises.
Our Packaging Standards
To minimize the risk of damage during transit, all Greek Plates are:
-
Bubble-wrapped in stacks of 20
-
Padded with newspaper
-
Packed in durable boxes with FRAGILE labels
We recommend factoring in the possibility of minor breakages when placing your order.

WHY DO GREEKS BREAK PLATES?
Breaking plates is a symbol of anger, a classic part of domestic disturbances. Since plate breaking often occurs at happy occasions, it is a way of fooling malicious spirits into thinking that the event was a violent one instead of a celebration.
Worldwide, noise is believed to drive away evil, and the sound of the plates smashing against the stone or marble floors of Greek houses would be loud enough to scare off almost anything.
